Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media also a speaker who is Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which explores the representations of females in the popular media narratives. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular culture. In addition she has a mission to increase awareness of online harassment directed towards women as well as the marginalized communities of people. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in Social and Political Thinking from York University, is a popular public speaking. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. As a university student she became interested in the issues surrounding gender and rights for women in the early stages. As of 2009, this determined young woman was slammed online for launching a website that focused on the gender of videogames. Her determination was not slowed from the attack, and actually, it just reinforced her drive to become a media critic and feminist. She is a recipient of numerous awards for her contribution to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and is the founder of Feminist Frequency. This educational non-profit explores the role of women in pop culture narratives.
